Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a city with a rich, albeit something of a culturally confusing history. It's the sheer size of the buildings and the mass amount of people that hit you first. If it were considered it's own country, Hong Kong would be the most densely populated on earth. With its blend of rich asian history, interrupted by nearly 200 years of British rule, Hong Kong offers a truly unique blend of east and west.
My interests in Hong Kong revolve around those moments when the hyper energetic hustle and bustle of the city part, and the small idiosyncrasies of modern life reveal themselves: wallpapered shrubbery to give the illusion of nature, babies sleeping on mothers shoulders while the city life buzzes around them at a lightening pace, or walking paths in gardens gated off and never to be used by pedestrians.
These are perhaps not uniquely Hong Kong, but they are quirkily human, and it's in these brief moments that we can step back and use photography as a mirror to take life just a little less seriously.
